River Oak Center for Children
In Association With Gift A Kid

Organization Information
Established in 1966 as an organization of group homes for abused children, River Oak Center for Children has since expanded into a multi-service behavioral healthcare agency for children and their families who suffer from severe behavioral or mental health problems.
As a nonprofit corporation, River Oak is able to provide a comprehensive range
of cost-effective mental health services, which include neuropsychological
evaluations, psychiatric assessments, therapeutic interventions, special education,
and a wide range of program-related support services. Specialized treatment
programs for children also include adapted physical education, art, speech
and language, and recreational therapy.
Leading the organization as its president and chief executive officer for the past 21 years is Dr. Mary Hargrave, a licensed clinical psychologist with a specialization in child psychology. Under her direction, almost 2,500 children and families are served annually by a staff of over 250 professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, teachers, counselors, and in-home support staff. Treatment services are divided into several divisions and provided at several sites. An actively involved Board of Directors representing a diversity of professions and interests provides oversight and input to the policies and operation of the organization. Board members also provide leadership in the development and implementation of the agency’s fund-raising strategy through personal financial support and securing funds from outside sources.
